2009 24 hour Starvation ridge : My First Ironman race and it was full of excitement. I posted a link to my helmet cam videos. Kevin Parks was killed in an accident about 2:00pm Saturday the 31st. I rode untill I could just not hang on any more. took a break and went two more laps before running out of time, not that it mattered I was done after those laps anyway with my hands again. I finished 11th out of 24. I am pround of myself for entering and most importantly sticking to my goal to lose 50 lbs for the race. I plan on losing about 20 more pounds before next year and I will be tring hard to make it into the top ten! http://vholdr.com/video/start-24-hour1

Lighting 2009 : getting ready for the 2009 25 hours of Starvation ridge. This race is special to me because I have gained weight over the last couple three years and got up to 274lbs. I am dieting and losing weight with this race as my goal. I hope to be 215lbs by race day! EDIT-11/2/09 I did it! 214lbs and finished 11th out of 24. The real winner is my family who will have a healthier dad/husband. I did not take any pictures of the race because I was in it but video is coming.

We are getting ready for the poker run. 12 hour race at Starvation Ridge 2009 : 12 hour race report from a sweep rider. I got off work early Friday to get ready to go to Starvation Ridge. I had not seen Scott or Debbie since the 24 hour last fall, so I was looking forward to it We got to the ridge at about 7:30 and set up camp on the rise looking down to the pits. I love camping up here because you can see more. I unloaded the bikes, CRF150, Kuzuma200, OSET12.5, and was ready for Saturday. Saturday morning about 7:00am I went outside and it was wet out. Scott was making some final changes to the track considering the weather, and I went out for a test lap. I was very muddy after one lap, and was thinking I should have brought more then one pair of riding pants. I had got brand new boots Thursday and was sure they would be broke in fast, and why did I get white ones? Well they weren’t white any more but they sure were comfortable. After the riders meeting I headed out to a spot that I was sure someone was going to have trouble, a little rocky uphill bypass section that was a little harder then it looks. I like sweeping at the ridge because waiting for the riders you can hear them a little before you see them, and when the first wave goes by , it is very fun to watch. I helped a couple of riders pick up there bikes, and followed the track after them. The track was getting real good even with a little sprinkle here and there. I remember even seeing some dust as people flew by me. I was having a great time even took a couple of pictures on a dry lap. I don’t remember the time but it was late afternoon maybe 4 or 5? But any one that was on the track will remember when the RAIN came down. I thought about going in and waiting it out in my trailer for awhile, nobody would know I am just sweeping and not racing, but how often in life do you get to ride in SIDEWAYS rain. Instant puddles everywhere and the little run off ruts filled with water. And the mud was back in a heartbeat. Now my dual sport bike has a great hard pack tire on it, so this made it almost get stuck getting off the track. I switched back to the 150 after this and rode it the rest of the day. I don’t think the track ever fully recovered from that rain shower, it seemed slick to me the rest of the day. I had fun trying to not get stuck dragging my footpegs in ruts. One spot before a pond I was day dreaming and not looking ahead, and I almost went over the bars my bike stopped so fast. I laughed at my self and rode on. The mud was beginning to be an issue sticking to my bike at about one lbs. per cc. and a 16 rear tire make it even more difficult . I was working hard just maintaining a trail pace. How some of the riders go so fast when it is slick is amazing to me. Every time I would see an Ironman rider go by I was re energized and glad to be all wet and riding. My laps were slow with the mud and I stopped to help anyone I saw stopped and before I knew it, the day was getting dark. My original plan was to ride my dual sport at night because on the good head light but now I was going to depend on my helmet lights only. My lights are Trail Tech mr11 spot and a flood, there are ok with a good light to fill in but as my only lights they are a little lacking. My boys OSET bike is electric and I just use one of his batteries to run the lights, that is pretty handy since I have 4 batteries, but one is all I would need for a few hours of dark. I saw some cool looking LED’s out there I wonder how they worked? The night laps seemed long to me, it was like there was not near as many people out on the track. On the last lap I did I only saw about ten people it seemed and it was 10:30 when I got back. I knew Scott would make a final sweep to make sure no one was out there and I was tired so I stayed at camp and begun the process of removing caked on mud layers. I had a great time and hope I did not get in anyones way out there. Big thanks to Scott and Debbie for letting me help them and putting on a FUN event. Looking forward to the 25 hour, by then I will have a bike and maybe there will be a team class for clubs. We had a great time. And thanks to Image by You for the great pictures. Dj--sweep rider
